“Every breath we take, every step we take, can be filled with peace, joy, and serenity. The question is whether or not we are in touch with it.”

like dew on the tip of a leaf."

Midweek Motif ~ Tranquility

Where do you go for tranquility?
Do you find it?

(To me, the word "tranquil" sounds like

an edible flower.)

Your Challenge:
Write a new poem that clarifies tranquility. Use a short form for this challenge: any form from 3 to 17 lines.

From time to time by Basho

From time to time
The clouds give rest
To the moon-beholders.

Adieu  by Donna Donabella
As we begin our walk through autumn paths
take time to sit and watch the leaves turn;
hear them gently touch the ground in a whisper…adieu.
Why I Wake Early by Mary Oliver
Hello, sun in my face. Hello, you who made the morning and spread it over the fields and into the faces of the tulips and the nodding morning glories, and into the windows of, even, the miserable and the crotchety – best preacher that ever was, dear star, that just happens to be where you are in the universe to keep us from ever-darkness, to ease us with warm touching, to hold us in the great hands of light – good morning, good morning, good morning. watch, now, how I start the day in happiness, in kindness.

  1. Good morning, Poets United! Victoria, you almost beat me to #1, but today my kitchen floor is due to be ripped out for replacement--so I'm up to get a few things before I can't. I'll be here through 5:30 when I have a potluck on the other side of town--but don't you worry--I'll be back by 9:30 or so and back here to spend time with you.

  4. Thanks for the prompt, Susan. My poem had been buzzing around in my head for quite a few weeks now but the prompt made it all settle into place. Mine is a little longer too. (it is a good idea to specify requirements the week before so that the creative idea is suitably constrained).

    1. I don't think you could have written this any shorter, Nicholas. But thank you for caring and thank you for being here. I'll rarely ask for a short form, but I'll try to announce it ahead if I do.

  6. Thanks for the prompt - I went over the line limit, but they're short, so it's still not too much of a commitment.

    1. I could make it more relaxed, I think, by taking that minute before letting the list forms in my head.

  9. Great quotes and wonderful prompt. I am sitting at my desk, feeling busier than a one-armed wallpaper hanger, as my mother used to say. Hope I can calm down enough to write about tranquility, LOL. It is the 10th annual Blogblast for Peace worldwide, so i will be traveling the globe today! Yay!

  10. Just posted my poem. It is my birthday today and so my take on tranquility is not really a positive one. I wonder if we really want true tranquility. I am having a good birthday thought! Thanks!

    1. Happy Birthday! Speaking as one over three score years old, I've got to tell you that you are facing the best decade ever. I expect to try out two more of them, but I think I will never achieve more than moments of tranquility here and there. But I definitely want those moments!

  15. This is a lovely prompt. Thank you. The past few weeks have been dark and full of turmoil so it is wonderful to step back and look at tranquility. LOL, I almost always will submit a short form - except maybe when doing a haibun, but I try.

We have good reading all week long at this site, with interviews and oldies and poems we wish we had written and other discussions. Sunday brings our Pantry for a poem old or new. And hope to see you next midweek, too.
