Yeats.
In September this year my husband and I spent a week in Ireland. We spent two days visiting the Sligo area, including the churchyard in Drumcliffe, County Sligo where W.B.Yeats is buried. We also got to see the small Lake Isle of Innisfree, as in the words of his poem. A very worthy poet to feature.
Well done, EileenEileen T O'Neill .....https://www.blogger.com/profile/03325632298717325699noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4139625267522039683.post-56618098935276643522010-11-06T15:28:30.817-04:002010-11-06T15:28:30.817-04:00An inspiration and giant of English literature. (what Smith's song, I wonder?)

I first discovered Yeats in an equally roundabout way. I was watching an episode of the old hospital drama "St. Elsewhere" in which a mental patient, Ralph, quotes from Yeats' "The Second Coming":

"Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold"

It made me curious, and since Ralph kindly identified the poet, I investigated. I've been a fan of yeats ever since, and "The Second Coming" remains my favorite poem of his.

Randomly, the band The Cranberries did a song that mentions John Butler Yeats, the father.Fireblossomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07040525704916368792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4139625267522039683.post-2584979012443665202010-11-05T21:38:18.169-04:002010-11-05T21:38:18.169-04:00Jacob, you have once again written an erudite, int...Jacob, you have once again written an erudite, interesting and informative history. I'll bet you got all A's at university!!!!!! I didnt know any of this information and it definitely makes me interested in this poet. I wish he had written a memoir, as his relationships sound worthy of a movie, at the very least!Well done!
