Welcome to Verse First, where simple notions prompt amazing poems.
Today's notion?
I REMEMBER
I REMEMBER
Start your poem with these two words. Write them, and then free write for fifteen minutes. Set a timer if you have to. Listen to music if you like. But whatever else is going on in the room, let your mind travel back and your hand across the page.
I REMEMBER...
When your fifteen minutes are up, finish the line you're working on, then walk away. Leave the words for another fifteen minutes. When you return, transform that free write into a piece that conveys the sensory, emotional and literal details of your memory. Make the memory belong to the reader, with no excess, no waste. Cut out every word that does not serve a distinct and valuable purpose.
I look forward to reading your memorable contributions. ~ Kim

BalasPadamI appreciate your comment, Lasha, because I believe most of the wonder is found in the simple things.
PadamWhat an idea Kim... to grab our memories!
BalasPadamNice prompt! I'll try to write but for now I'm linking the old one. I hope it is allowed:)
BalasPadamOh, now I get it! The poem should start with "I Remember"..will try to write...:)
PadamI love your prompts, Kim... thank you!
BalasPadamSo glad you feel this way, Laurie. They make me feel connected to all of you during this crazy/busy/happy time.
PadamThank you, Kim. I found my "I remember" fed two prompts! The recipe is one I use quite often, and it was neat to find the steps here.
BalasPadamSorry I didn't start the poem with "I remember," whoops!
PadamFantastic prompt, Kim!!!!!!
BalasPadamYippee!
PadamWhat an incredibly unique challenge ........
BalasPadam:-)!!!
PadamI LOVE THAT DESCRIPTION.
I cried after I wrote this. I have lost a friend in an accident last February. I dont know why i thought about him when the prompt came. And I may delete the post anytime. I am sorry, because his sister sometimes views my blog and I dont want her to be caught facing this poem.
BalasPadamPlease just leave it until Saturday. By then most of us will have had the opportunity to view it. I admire your grit and bravery in writing and sharing.
PadamKim,
BalasPadamAmazed by your array of prompts. Absolutely fantastic and of course challenging with the Egg Timer ticking!!
Eileen
Love that you find them enticing, Eileen. I do tend to think outside of the norm, don't I? Explains a lot! LOL!
PadamKim, This prompt brought back so many wonderful memories! Thank you!
BalasPadamKim great prompt

I adore this idea but might not be able to make it back until tomorrow (Thursday). Thanks for this brilliant idea.
BalasPadamMy poem took a different kind of turn.
BalasPadamI loved this prompt Kim! <3
BalasPadamThis really inspired me. I came out with something which I'm not quite sure what it means yet. Powerful though. Thank you for the prompt!
BalasPadamI loved this prompt also! This is not nearly as revised as I would like but I'm taking a course right now (every day for a week) and have homework (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it...)so this will have to do for now. Thanks though Kim. It was a good exercise.

Wonderful prompt and a very interesting exercise, just letting the words come out and flow for that space of time. I enjoyed it.
BalasPadamI love this prompt and I love free writes.
BalasPadamthank you for this prompt. I've never tried anything like this, I'm old fashioned that way ;) but this was really a refreshment for me.
BalasPadami am a day late, but better late than never! :)
BalasPadamI think we can all agree we had to dig up the past and get in touch with those emotions once again. I enjoyed testing those memories and applying it into a poem.
