Verse First ~ Walk in Gratitude
Welcome to VERSE FIRST, where simple notions prompt amazing poems.
Today's notion?
WALK IN GRATITUDE
WALK IN GRATITUDE
Today's is another simple prompt. Take a walk. On that walk, observe your surroundings with an eye of gratitude. When you return to your writing table, quickly write down your observations, then refine them; burn away the dross to reveal a poem that will imbue your readers with gratitude, too.

alright, a quick uneditted rattle off piece from my walk across the parking lot into the school this morning...happy thanksgiving kim! smiles.
BalasPadamat the corner stop out of the school parking lot,
where students go right to the po fields or left
to the city, glass from beer bottles & plastic caps,
small bits of wrapper come together by the grate,
washed up by run off from the hard rains
the last two nights---
headlights cutting the pre-dawn dark,
make them glitter as an earth born star
made of our cast offs, beauty in the dross,
something that gives us all hope.
Good one Briano. Waiting for the edited one. ;)
PadamSO beautiful - beauty amidst the litter. Brian, you go to work early! Teachers rock! I LOVE the "earth-born star". This poem makes me grateful - that there are men like you in the world.
PadamBri, you have such a great eye for beauty. Hope that always remains.
PadamHave a great Thanksgiving
Brian,
PadamAn inclusive view of your world at school. Nicely observed to see all sides of the surroundings....
Eileen
Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow:)
hey there...just got where we were going...through the snow and wind...ack...ha...happy thanksgiving!
PadamSo vivid! and something out of the box from you in the form of a short verse! how smile hides in small things around us!!
PadamGlad you safely arrived for your holiday. I am ever-impressed with your ability to look for the good and praise it. The beauty in the dross... great line!
PadamI have tried a thing or two in my poem, don't know how it works out. Basically, I saw nothing much, but it was way enough too. :)
BalasPadamWrong link..need to post the correct poem tomorrow!
BalasPadamSimple
PadamLeaves
Brown
Crisp
Like fresh paper
Twigs
Like pencils
Rolling out words
Breath
Cold
Pouring out
A ladder
Leant against the wall
Holding him up
The green bus
Real people
From houses
With orange light
Steam on the inside of the windows
Breath
Warm
Pouring out
Their eyes kind
Smiling
Soon it will be over.
This is wonderful, Jae Rose. I could see each thing you mentioned......love the kind eyes!
PadamJae Rose,
PadamA most comprehensive list of observations..Seeing something in all of them.
Thank you for sharing your words.
Eileen
i like the smile in their eyes...and the relief i fee as well that it will soon be over....
PadamThank you Sherry, Eileen and Brian..
Padamoh beautiful Jae! but i wish they are over to come back again!
PadamThis is wonderful, Jae! You took me there. I walked with you. I saw each vivid image. Well done, poet-friend!
PadamThank you very much Akila and Kim
PadamI don't usually do a draft but I drafted about 8 words to begin. Thanks Kim for giving us a point to start (and end)
BalasPadamWishing each of you Thankful days and warm nights ;)
Kim,
BalasPadamI could only see those who make my life much easier, by their unselfish actions, when I thought of gratitude...
Eileen:)
What a wonderful perspective, Eileen!
PadamMy words-more the observation:
BalasPadamThe red glass
scattered
around
my parking
spot -
taken -
crowdy? - no
just because
it's more
comfy to throw
someone's car
closer to
entrance door
not first time
complain? - why?
we all share
the space
in flock
we survive.
very true! and perhaps the sharing also accommodates a bit of friction from small occurences. Tolerances.
PadamYour attitude here, lack of ire, is a terrific example. Nicely done.
Padamyes....we all share the space...and we are bound to run together a bit along the way...
BalasPadamThe most favorite thing of my daily routine is Walking, Thanks Kim for the prompt.
BalasPadamHi Kim and Mary and Sherry and Friends. I'm visiting family at my young nephew's home in Ohio. He and Jen's baby turned 1 today! Enjoy your long weekend, as we will.
BalasPadamHealth and good food to all!
Enjoy, Susan. Hold that baby for me, too. My little grandson just turned 5. The baby is all grown!
Padama walk is always a cure....
