Poets United Midweek Motif ~ Silence
Greetings, Poets United Friends!
For me Simon and Garfunkel music never gets old. Actually it was "The Sound of Silence" that helped the duo become famous in 1964. Truly I think it is a timeless song, with a message than can speak to us today as well as it did back in 1964. It is depthful, meaningful, a song to get lost in. I also realize that some who are participating in Midweek Motif weren't even born then, but somehow I would find it hard to believe that there would be anyone who had never heard this classic song somewhere. But if you are one who never heard it before, you ARE in for a treat, I think.
So what is your prompt?
1. Listen to the song....REALLY listen to it, and then write anything that is brought to mind by the words.
2. Take a look at the lyrics here: Sound of Silence lyrics. Choose a phrase or sentence from the lyrics and use that as part of your poem. As I look at the words, there are many phrases which could launch a poem, I think!!
3. Write about silence in any way. Do you enjoy silence? When is life silent? Where do you find silence? Etc.
Next week's Midweek Motif is "The Joy of Poetry" with Sherry prompting!

A wonderful prompt Mary...
BalasPadamThanks, Sumana!
PadamHey everyone,
BalasPadamWoooo hoooo its time for Midweek Motif once again! I m back again with a new form.. this time its a "Quatrain" hope you guys like it :D
Lots of love,
Sanaa
Nice to see you!
PadamNice to see you too :D
PadamGood morning.
BalasPadamSilence is a two edged sword
It can be comforting and contemplative and at other times be used as a weapon
Will be interesting to see who likes the silence and who doesn't
ha - I thought the same thing... silence can speak louder than any action we might take or is silence the action.
PadamHa, indeed I have known those as well who have used it as a weapon. One of the strongest weapons one can utilize really!
PadamHope you all enjoy the prompt! Looking forward to seeing what you write this week.
BalasPadamGood Morning, Wishing each of you a wonderful day and may you find a moment of silence so that you may truly hear...
BalasPadamWishing you that same moment, Truedessa.
PadamThank you for the prompt - one of my favourite songs growing up and now silence is one of life's treasures - much undervalued...again, sorry if I can't get around to people's posts..heading off to hospital tomorrow maybe there a few days or back home by Poetry Pantry!
BalasPadamBe well, Jae. Thinking of you!
Padamoh had to give this one a give - it speaks volumes
BalasPadamGlad you did!!
PadamYes, a weapon is silence, a golden, heavy scimitar that can cut deep...
BalasPadamThanks for the prompt, Mary.
Oh, it really can indeed! Thanks for participating, Nick.
PadamThat song has one of the greatest opening lines ever.
BalasPadamAgreed!
PadamI have always loved that song, Mary. The topic of silence led me in an odd direction, but hopefully it ties in.......something I have been pondering the last few days. I have a busy morning, but will get around to read you all as I am able thru the day.......looking forward to it. Thanks, Mary, for hosting, and Susan, we are happy to know you are healing. Susan will be going home from hospital on Friday, but still has much healing to do, so we send her our loving thoughts.
BalasPadamI did like the direction you went with this poem. Not odd at all. Smiles.
PadamThank you, for the inspiration...I will read as many as I can...I'm a little limited on time...summer's squishing my computer time. :)
BalasPadamsummer has a way of doing that!
PadamGood prompt Mary. I'm a little under the weather, but I wrote something simple. Will be around to read later.
BalasPadamFeel better soon, Myrna.
PadamI love silence, but that's not the direction I took in my poem. Thanks for a great quote and the reminder of an old favorite song :-)
BalasPadamHa...I meant, great prompt, not quote. Thanks, Mary :-)
BalasPadamLOL! glad to see you here, CC.
PadamWonderful prompt, Mary. Have been a little busy with a family function...hence, I am late.
BalasPadamShall come back later to read all the poems....
Thanks, Panchali.
PadamThanks for the prompt, Mary :)
BalasPadamI wrote about a silence that every writer dreads!
Thanks for taking part!
Padam
