Poetry Pantry #393

source

Greetings, Poets!

Today is Academy Award Day here in the U.S.  I wonder if, in comments today, people might be interested in mentioning one of their favorite movies from the past year.  It doesn't even have to be an Oscar nominee.  It could be a favorite movie made in your own country. Our library acquires a lot of foreign movies, and I often look for the new ones.  If you name a good non-English movie, I will be on the lookout.  Smiles.  This year a movie I really liked was "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri."  Another was "The Post."  How about you?

Thanks to participated in Sumana's "Carpe Diem / Seize the Day" Midweek motif.  Next week Susan's motif will be "Money."

If you didn't read last Monday's feature of Poems on Grief by four of our male poets, please take a look back.  It was such a very moving feature that should be read by everyone, I think.  I am awe sometimes of the poets we have here!

Monday Sherry will be doing another poet update.  Stay tuned, and return to see who she is featuring this week.

Friday Rosemary featured a touching love poem, "My at last lover," by Australian poet Dorothy Porter.  Don't miss it!

Now with no further delay, let's share poetry.  Link your ONE poem below.  Say hello in comments, and mention a movie if you want to.  Visit the poems of others who link.  Looking forward to seeing you on the trail.

  1. Good evening,

Hmm a good non-English movie you say? well that would have to be 'Mom' featuring Late Sri Devi. It's an emotional story which portrays how far a mother can go to seek justice for her daughter (it's also a bit disturbing since the daughter was a rape victim) But gosh the acting in this movie by these two women is just incredible! The emotions which they evoke makes one feel as though everything that's taking place in the movie is real!

Sigh I still can't believe Sri Devi is no longer with us 😒she passed away on February 24, 2018. I will back shortly to read and comment.. sharing my poem 'Belabouring hurt at Twilight.' Happy Sunday everyone!πŸ’ž

    1. I have heard here of the death of Sri Devi. How tragic. I don't think I have seen any movies with her in, but I will take a look in our library system and see if they have the movie "Mom" available.

    2. "Mom" is not yet available, but on Amazon Prime there are some OLDER movies of Sri Devi available. I will try to take a look at one of the subtitled ones.

  2. Hi Sanaa! It's always a shock...death. Sri Devi's talent was one of a kind.

  4. Good Sunday morning....winter returned here with far too much snow so we are buried and cold again and I am wishing for spring.

As for movies, I am a classic movie fan and so I watch old movies....it is rare I see a recent movie so the Oscars mean little to me since I don't see the movies. I guess I prefer the drama and relationships and stories told in older movies. Recent movies seem too real life or overly violent....I need an escape from real life at the moment. The perfect escape is reading wonderful poetry....so I'll be around soon to visit! Have a great day everyone!

  5. I wish everyone a happy Sunday.Mine is just about over, so I am off to bed in a minute and will read your poems tomorrow. Mary, I haven't done a lot of movie-going this last year, just busy with other things, and of those I did see there was nothing outstanding – except for a documentary I saw on TV a few nights ago: "I am Heath Ledger". I expected to find it interesting but had no idea it would be as absorbing and moving as it was. I also had no idea he was such an artist in other genres besides acting. Many of the reminiscences were from his closest friends, lads he went to school with and stayed friends with all his life, and from his family, who clearly all adored him. And much of the footage was Heath's own, as he was always experimenting with photography. Although it is very sad he died so young (I would think, accidentally) the movie left me with a feeling of joy and vitality, both of which he had in abundance.

  7. When it comes to movies, I'm not sure I have a favorite for last year. Not really. Hm... I just realized that.

    1. Get Out is a movie that I don't think made it to this area. And even The Florida Project didn't seem to be around, and that is one I really want to see.

  9. I only get to see movies once they come out on dvd. My fave of all time is I Dreamed of Africa, with Kim Basinger, a true story of a woman's life full of incredible beauty, incredible sorrow.

  13. Happy day to you all. The segment with the poets on Grief was so moving. Better than any movie to read, the real heartbreak of pain at the loss of someone we loved. I don't get into movies like I used to. but the poetry, I can always relate to.

  14. oh dear haven't been to the movies in quite awhile... so I will fall back to an old favorite Second Hand Lions... which struck a chord as I related to the two main characters... being a grumpy old man... :)

  15. It's quite an oldie, but I loved "Steel Magnolias". Thought Sally Fields did her best work there. I cried and cried. (My favorite pastime it seems.)
I'm posting very late but hope it's better than never.
