It is most important to write avowedly Not Political Poems, such as this one of Mr Archbold.

Many people who, with lily white hand, write poems do not write poltical poems. This may show how in touch with the earth earthy they are. But if they would deign, with immense grace and benefit to us all, to plunge their hands into the clay, or the mud, if not the muck, the earth would surely rejoice. If with all their might, they would set about writing a True Blue Not Political Poem - of an Archboldian sort - it may well serve the cause of poetry as a whole. It would alert the political masters that they had better fear the power of Not Political Poets, and find a means to gaol them with all due dispatch ...

TellFactshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15883607228604872470noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4139625267522039683.post-7938257063416118442018-01-16T03:59:57.225-05:002018-01-16T03:59:57.225-05:00WONDERFUL!WONDERFUL!Rob Schacknehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09820621386743394312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4139625267522039683.post-30515857888677388002018-01-14T00:03:52.140-05:002018-01-14T00:03:52.140-05:00Delighted that you all appreciate this post so muc...Delighted that you all appreciate this post so much!Rosemary Nissen-Wadehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05913841031559499568noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4139625267522039683.post-38157312473888356232018-01-13T22:46:33.849-05:002018-01-13T22:46:33.849-05:00This is a very inspiring piece of writing. The repetitive phase juxtaposes brilliantly with the other content and, I think, serves to demonstrate that - at some point - apathy is impossible. Great pick, Rosemary! I did like his poem too...very subtle in some ways and very direct in others! I would love to hear him read the poem!!Maryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07366010389846904663noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4139625267522039683.post-75041556048952159492018-01-12T11:06:27.409-05:002018-01-12T11:06:27.409-05:00This might just be one of the best political poems...This might just be one of the best political poems I have ever read, and would be brilliant at a spoken word. I especially love the herstory line. And the lines about all we have gone through, yet the world is still a dog's breakfast. He sounds like my kind of poet. Thanks for the introduction, Rosemary this made my day. I have friends and relations in Australia and have a sense of solidarity with Australians, although I have never visited. I also identify strongly with this poem. I love the political statement that isn't a political statement, especially the lines:
'I’m happier writing about the quirky little peccadilloes of the human condition rather than waging a war of attrition...'
and
‘...I’ve studied history and herstory seems to be the way we should have travelled
because the whole thing unravelled when men decided to run the show'.
Kim M. I like how humorously he negates the need to speak out about political issues. I think many of us are doing the same - unable to resist the need to speak out.
Great choice for us to read today.
