Greetings,
fellow writers, and welcome to the 5th Pantry of Prose—when Poets
and Storytellers get together to read and tell tales. Today’s theme is Away
from Home. The motif came to me while I was on vacation (I wonder why *cough*),
but it does not mean that we are expected to write vacation stories (unless we really wish to).
We
can approach this theme from so many angles… We can let our muses dance with
the words of Czeslaw Milosz, and write an Away from
Home story that shows how “Language is the only homeland.”
Or,
we can read into Maya Angelou spell, and craft a tale that shows how (if?) “The ache for home lives in all of us.
The safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.”
Only
you can choose where your Away from Home story will take us… So, my beloved
Poets and Storytellers, for today’s prompt, let us write a new short story or essay or article (in 313 words or fewer),
that explores the idea of being Away from Home.
As a secondary option, you can take one of your old poems, which fits the week’s theme, and turn it into a new
short story.
Please
let us know which option you chose.
This
prompt will remain open until Tuesday night. One entry per participant. Visit
other storytellers. Delight in homes made words.
a wee
note in rose (for newcomers and seasoned
dwellers): We love poetry,
but the Pantry of Prose is… for prose (meaning, short stories, slice of life pieces, essays). So, with my deepest apologies, links to
poems will be deleted.
a tardy
note in blue: the theme
for Sumana’s next Midweek Motif is “Weather”.
Hello Storytellers! I'm actually away from home, which means I might be slow reading your delicious stories but I'll get there. Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteI shall be here (lurking like a tale-loving creep) waiting for your return. Can't wait to read your story!
DeleteHappiest Sunday, to you. And have a blast!
I hope everyone is having a fantastic day, in life and ink.
ReplyDeleteIt is the witching hour here, so i am awake and hungry for stories. What a very cool banner, Magaly. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you liked the banner, Sherry! I just finished doing all my morning things, and can't wait to read all the story yum.
DeleteBanner is terrific!
DeleteGood morning writers! After a grey day with some rain yesterday, we have sunshine and the summer sound of an aeroplane overhead. The grass is daisy-scattered and my husband has just got up, so I'll soon smell the scent of Sunday breakfast (he always cooks at weekends). It is so different from last weekend, when I was marking exam papers. I missed my early morning writing routine, the on-line poems, prompts and, especially, friends.
ReplyDeleteI want to jump into your comment and delight in the daisies. How I love your description of the weather, landscape, your morning. And I totally understand missing one's routine. I'm currently trying to get used to my new one and it seems to be taken forever. But we shall get there!
DeleteA happy Wednesday to you all. This week I turned one of my old poems into a prose piece. The poem link is also there. Hope I did justice to your wonderful prompt Magaly. Maya Angelou's words really stirred me. I had to use her words :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see how you danced with the words/ideas of home of Maya Angelou!
DeleteGood day, folks!
ReplyDeleteWill be back later to read after i go grab some food. :)
I just finished doing the food thing. And now, to the reading thing! :-D
DeleteI've read some good ones so far. A wonderful theme, Magaly.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary. I've delighted in some good ones, too. Now,to experience the rest.
DeleteHello Magaly and all! Thanks for a thoughtful prompt! I managed to hit 313 words exactly- if you don't count the quote. :-)
ReplyDeleteI loved all 313 words. I often try to make my story 313, exactly (my OCD likes it, lol).
DeleteHi all - will be back to read some more and wish I could add another more to the task piece. I've missed being here = wrote a poem and had a short story from many I wrote long ago sitting on my desk and then .. wallah here was this prose task ... and so I just wrote away and thank you for giving me the chance to try my hand at publicly putting out some prose (not copied from that piece on my desk nor from the three novels or one binder filled with short stories...!) You have inspired me more than you can possibly know.
ReplyDeleteThe Pantry of Prose will continue to be here on the first of every month. And with two poetry prompts--the Midweek Motif and the Poetry Pantry--you shall continue to get all sorts of chances to share your yummy words!
DeleteWonderful! I’ve been distracted with the US being turned upside down ..however being involved here is too critical to my own well being to miss! Hope some enjoy along the way. Thank you ❤️❤️
ReplyDeleteIndeed, failing to put on our own mask before helping another tends to result in two more than one in trouble. the current state of the US is beyond worrying, add our own issues to the mix... and life gets extra complicated. Still, you are more than correct, we need to remember ourselves.

DeleteThank you Magaly for insightful comment and this lovely prose opportunity ❤️
The whole day has passed and time has not allowed me writing any entries... I hope to be able to come back with some piece of prose tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteSo nice you stopped by to say hi, Bjorn. It is always lovely to see you.
DeleteWe shall leave a candle burning for you! :-)
DeleteI took a trip, but I am not sure it is the travel you are speaking about.
ReplyDeleteI totally love the place you took us to!
DeleteSusie, it is amazing. I drank in every word, with deep understanding.
ReplyDeleteLate again! Didn't think I'd manage it at all this time, but after all....
ReplyDeleteWoooHooo! I think I just saw your muse doing a little dance. Off to read!
DeleteOkay, i luv this prompt so i put on my fiction/fantasy hat and i spun a tale
ReplyDeleteHave a good week all
much love
Yay! for word love.
