Good morning, Poets! Here we are into December already! The year has really gone fast. Just a reminder that Poets United will be taking a holiday break. The last Pantry of the year will be December 16, and Poets United will resume with the Pantry on January 6.
Monday Sherry will be visiting with a very prolific and responsive Indian poet. His interview (and his poetry) is not to be missed.
Next week's Susan's Midweek Motif will be Surprise! It will be wonderful to be surprised to read whatever you write for this theme.
With no delay, let's share poetry. Link your one poem below. Stop in and say hello in the comments. Visit the poems of other poets who link. Look forward to seeing you on the trail.
The photo today is one I found in Wikipedia. Just something a little different for you to ponder as you share your poetry today.
As we are making our way to the holiday season, we want to let you know in advance that Poets United is planning a holiday break. The last Poetry Pantry of 2018 will be on December 16. We will not have any features between that date and Sunday, January 6, when we will resume then with Poetry Pantry and go on from there.. So let's do a lot of writing and sharing before that time and then enjoy our break!
Monday Sherry is featuring three poems of the week. Be sure to return and give Sherry and these poets a shout-out.
Wednesday Sumana's Midweek Motif will be "Ode to Age." So feel free to plan ahead!
On Friday Rosemary had an excellent feature - another of her Moonlight Musings. This time the subject was "Lust and Rage." I hope that has gotten your attention, and if you have not yet read her musing you will take a look!
Now with no further delay, let's share poetry. Link your one poem below. Stop in and say hello. Then visit poems of others who link. Look forward to seeing you along the way.
Greetings, Poets! First of all, if you are in the United States, do not forget to vote this week. The photos above were taken by me on a walk through a woods in our area last week. A beautiful day. A beautiful walk.
If you have not already, please read Rosemary's The Living Dead this week. She features the poet/playwright/ author Ntozake Shange perhaps most well known for "for colored girls who have considered suicide." I find it amazing how current Rosemary often is with her articles. This is a good one.
Thinking of being timely, do not miss Sherry's feature she has ready for Monday: Poems for Pittsburgh! The day before election day here at that. But, I think when we are at the polls we must keep such horrific events in mind as we decide what kind of leadership we want to have.
Next week Susan's Midweek Motif will be Reading Fiction, so plan ahead if you wish.
Now with no delay, let's share poetry. Link your poem below. Say hello in the comments. Visit the poems of others who post. See you on the trail.
Life is often like an escalator; sometimes on the way up and sometimes down.
A Bit of Play with Light

Playing a bit with focus - this is intentionally out of focus
Greetings, Friends. I am not saying that the above photos are masterpieces. Far from it. I took a 1 1/2 hour class at the Apple store on mall photography with the I-Phone. I learned a few things, but these photos were just experiments! Have some of you also used your cell phone cameras just for fun?
Hope you all had a good week. I had / am having a busy week. I will do the majority of my commenting on poetry a while after the pantry is up. Lots of things happening here.
Hope you enjoyed Sherry's feature last Sunday - three of our wonderful male poets were featured. If you haven't read it, there is still time to scroll back and read poetry by Hank, Frank, and Lee San!
For Midweek Motif last week, Sumana had us writing about winter, and this next Wednesday Susan will be prompting us to write about Money (for world savings / thrift day).
Sherry's I Wish I Had Written This on Friday was very moving. She featured the poem "What Do I Remember About the Evacuation?" by Joy Kogawa. Scroll back if you haven't read it. It gave ME chills.
Monday Sherry features a blog of the week by a very inspiring poet. Don't miss it.
Now with no further delay, let's share poetry. Link your poem below. Say hello in the comments. Visit the poems of others who link. Enjoy~
Hi Friends - Sometimes I am amazed when I look at the number of the Poetry Pantry I am preparing. This week, did you notice, it is #425? Considering we take breaks for winter holiday and I think have occasionally taken a summer break, this is at least 8 1/2 years that Poetry Pantry has existed. If I were ambitious I would look back and see when Poetry Pantry #1 occurred. Do scroll back and read Mr. Moto's Confession which Rosemary shared for I Wish I'd Written This. It was really an enjoyable poem, and Rosemary shared lots of interesting details about the poet as well. Next week Sumana's Midweek Motif will be Winter. I find myself wondering if I am ready for it!!!! (I think not.) Monday Sherry is featuring poems by three of our prolific male poets! You will definitely recognize the poets and enjoy the poems being shared. With no further delay, let's share poetry. Link your one poem below. Stop in to the comments to say hi. Visit the poems of others who link. Look forward to seeing you on the trail!
Greetings, Friends! Hope you all had a poetically productive week. Time again for us to share poetry here in the Poetry Pantry. We have had another good week, and we hope that you enjoyed the features. Monday Sherry featured poet Pat Palazy. Wednesday Sumana presented the prompt "Owl" for Midweek Motif. And Friday Rosemary shared a Thought Provoker, the poet Candy Royalle who is a performance artist. Check it out if you missed it!
Do return on Monday for Sherry's chat with one of our poets who is also a visual artist. Susan's Midweek Motif this next week will be "Abundance."
Now with no delay, let's share poetry. Link your one poem below. Say hello in the comments. And visit others who link. Looking forward to reading your poetry! See you on the trail.
Greetings, friends! I don't know about you, but it seems that these weeks keep moving faster and faster. It seems like only yesterday that it was spring here. We have already passed through summer and are in the middle of autumn; and soon (horrors) it will be winter. Someone please slow down time! Smiles. Thank you, Rosemary, for the poem "October" by Edward Thomas that you shared for The Living Dead. I had never heard of this poet, but really appreciated how he depicted autumn! Monday be sure to return and read Sherry's Blog of the Week - a visit with a Canadian poet who is relatively new to PU; but it will be wonderful to get to know more about her. Next week Sumana's Midweek Motif will be The Owl. With no further delay, let's share some poetry. Link your one poem below. Stop into the comments and say hello. And visit the poems of others who post. I look forward of reading what you share
Greetings, Poets! Glad to see you again. It is interesting that in this week's The Living Dead Rosemary shared some spring poems, and here I am sharing an autumn photo. Aren't we lucky to be able to share poetry from people all over the world? Monday Sherry will share an interview with one of our newer poets. It always is nice to get to know new people, isn't it? Next Wednesday Sumana's prompt is "the wall." Hmmm, I know what that invokes for me, but there really are so many possibilities. Now I hope you all have a poem ready to share. Link it below. Then visit the poems of others who link. Come back often and see who else has linked. Look forward to seeing you on the trail.
Greetings, Friends! It is time once again for us to share poetry in the Poetry Pantry. It can be a current poem or an older one that you would enjoy getting feedback on. I am looking forward to reading whatever it is you want to share; but then again I also enjoy it when people comment on my poetry. Smiles. Rosemary did some very interesting musing on poetry in her feature this week. In it she talks about what she calls "the medium and the message," and the parts that struck me most were the parts that dealt with poetry reading and poetry commenting. See what you think. Take a look back if you haven't read it, and add your own thoughts. Sumana presented a beautiful Midweek Motif prompt this past Wednesday. Thanks to those of you who took part and shared poetry on "Sunset." This coming week Susan's Midweek Motif will be "Evidence / Clues." Monday Sherry is sharing the poems of two poets who wrote poems on subjects we will all be able to relate to. Remember to check back with Poets United every few days. You never know what you will find. Now with no delay, let's share poetry. Link your ONE poem below. Stop into the comments to say hello. Then visit the poems of others who have linked. Come back a few times, as there will always be someone new.
Greetings, friends....and thanks, again, Marja for sharing your beautiful photography with us. This week we have photos from the Netherlands to enjoy. If you have not read Rosemary's I Wish I'd Written This this week, run don't walk back to it! She features a poem by Thomas Keily - "We are Not Afraid" - which really speaks to us in these difficult times. Also, if you did happen to miss Sherry's chat with Robin Timber / Old Egg last Monday, please scroll back to read that as well. Robin talked about what it was growing up in London during World War II, and it is a chat not to be missed. Monday Sherry is going to feature poems of peace by some of our poets. Wednesday Sumana's Midweek Motif will be "Sunset." And now, let's share poetry. Link your one poem below. Say 'hello' in the comments; and then visit the poems of others who link. See you on the trail.
Greetings, friends! Today we are featuring some photos of Okarito, a small town in New Zealand. What beautiful pictures. Thank you, Marja, for sharing views from your travel. Isn't it amazing that it is September already? Where did summer go? Thanks to all of you who took part in Poets United this past week. It means a lot that you seem to enjoy our features and our opportunities to write. I hope you haven't missed Sherry's I Wish I'd Written This, in which she features two poems by the Canadian poet Margaret Atwood. On Monday you will have an opportunity to read an absolutely riveting chat that Sherry had with one of our long-time poets who has lived through a period of history most of us have not. You will NOT want to miss it. Next week Susan's Midweek Motif will be Charity. With no delay, let's share poetry. Link your one poem below. Stop in and say hello. Visit the poems of others who link. I will see you on the trail!
Greetings, Poets! Hard to believe that it is almost the end of summer; and children will be heading back to school soon, if they haven't already. Where does time go?
Here we are again sharing poetry. Today I shared another photo from Wikimedia Commons. I have never seen an Aurora Borealis and may never have an opportunity, but what beauty!
Thinking of beauty, Rosemary just shared the poem "The Beautiful Changes" by Richard Wilbur for her The Living Dead this week. We do need to contemplate the beauty in our world, I think. Thinking of beauty, many of you participated in Sumana's prompt at Midweek Motif this past week: The World is a Beautiful Place! And it surely is.
Monday, be sure to check back, as Sherry is featuring poems written by three of us! Ha, myself included. I am proud to be featured by Sherry alongside two other such fine poets!
Next week Susan's Midweek Motif is "What if....?" That surely leaves it wide open, doesn't it? Smiles.
Now without further delay, let's share poetry. Link your one poem below. Stop in and say hello. Visit the poems of others who post!
Trail ended at the shores of Lake Michigan. Lots of locks attached to the chain fence here. Forever love?
Really very much like an ocean -- but VERY VERY cold water
Some people DID swim though!
Good morning, Poets. Hope you are having a good Sunday. This week I am sharing a few photos from a walk I took this week not too far from my area. It really was a nice day for a walk, and the beach was peaceful. Lake Michigan is too cold for serious swimming, but some people do take a quick dip. The waves are ocean-like really. Click on photos to make them larger if you wish.
Thanks to those who took part in one or more of the Poets United features this past week. Without your participation, where would we be?
If you have not read Rosemary's "Moonlight Musing" about Poetry Addiction, take a look back. Lots to contemplate in this article.
Monday Sherry is featuring the works of three poets who have written on a very tragic and sad situation which has been in the news these past days. Such good poems, as well as some heartfelt discussion, you won't want to miss.
Susan has a very timely topic for us to write on for Midweek Motif: National Flags. Will be interesting to read what people come up with.
I do like the timeliness of what is posted on our site. I really appreciate all that Sherry, Susan, Rosemary, and Sumana do...and also appreciate each of you poets!
Without delay, let's share poetry. Link your one poem below. Stop in to say hello in the comments. Visit the poems of others who link. See you on the trail.
One of the only two 1-Michelin star street hawker food stalls
in Singapore is found here in Chinatown. The soya sauce chicken
is yummy, but the queue is another matter.
To the subway! The station is aptly named Chinatown.
A wall mural featuring a vanished trade, the letter writer.
The five-foot way, an architectural feature common to most shophouses in Singapore and Malaysia. It provides shelter from the rain and sun.
Good Sunday to all of you! Hope you all are doing fine. Again this week we have photos contributed by Lee San to enjoy. Smiles. Always glad to see you at the different things Poets United offers each week....whether it is Sherry's Monday offering, Susan's or Sumana's Midweek Motif, or Rosemary's (or sometimes Sherry's) Friday feature. Be sure to check back and read the wonderful poem "The Forest" by a Canadian poet that Sherry shared for I Wish I'd Written This. This Monday Sherry will be featuring an update with one of our most prolific poets. Wednesday Sumana's Midweek Motif prompt will be "Of Poems." With no delay, let's share poetry. Link your one poem below. Say hello in the comments, and visit the other poets who share their work. I look forward to seeing you on the trail.
Greetings, Friends. This week and next week we will be enjoying photos of Singapore's China Town taken by Lee San (dsnake1). They really are a delight for the eye, aren't they? Thanks to those of you who have participated in the Poets United offerings this week. On Monday Sherry shared poems by poets Colleen, Sanaa, and Donna. Wednesday Sumana's Midweek Motif theme was Wilderness. And on Friday Sherry shared very meaningful poetry written by a talented Canadian poet. Stop back again Monday to see what Sherry has to offer us. And Wednesday Susan's Midweek Motif will be "a bundle of contradictions" or "Anne Frank's last letter." With no delay, let's share poetry. Link your one poem below. Stop in and say hello. Visit the poems of others who link. See you on the trail.
Greetings, Poets! Do you realize this is the 412th Poetry Pantry? Considering that there are 52 weeks a year, and we generally take a short break or two during a year, that turns out to be LOTS of years of Sunday poetry. Smiles.
The photo today comes from Wikimedia Commons. I think it is pretty impressive.
Thanks to those of you who stopped by sometime during the previous week....to those of you who read and commented on Sherry's wonderful article on multi-talented Annell Livingston, to those of you who wrote on Susan's "Greatness" prompt for Midweek Motif, to those of you read / commented on Rosemary's I Wish I'd Written This feature of "from the Morning Patio." Each week is a good one at Poets United. You never know what you will find.
Monday Sherry is featuring three poems by some wonderfully prolific poets!
Wednesday Sumana's Midweek Motif will be "Wildness."
With no further delay, let's share poetry! Link your ONE poem below. (Remember - only one poem for Poetry Pantry. For Midweek Motif, you can share more than one.) Share a comment with us all. Visit the poems of other poets who have shared.
Kettle Moraine State Forest - Pike Lake - Wisconsin
Greetings, Friends. Summer in Wisconsin is indeed oftentimes a beautiful season. This week I was able to picnic and hike in one of our many state parks. Just showing (above) a few photos of the lake and one of the trails. Such a setting gives me a feeling of much needed peacefulness.
Thanks to those of you who have participated in Poets United this week. Susan's "Lady Liberty" prompt was certainly an apt one. This next Wednesday Sumana is prompting us to write a poem about "city."
For I Wish I'd Written This, Rosemary shared some wonderful gems from tinywords - a site that shares haiku and other short poetry. It is amazing how much depth there can be in a very short poem. Check it out, if you haven't.
Monday Sherry will be featuring a blog of the week - this time by a very active poet and one you are all familiar with.
Now, with no further delay, let's share some poetry. Link your one poem below. Stop in and say hello. And visit the links of other poets who have shared. Looking forward to seeing YOU on the trail.
Good day, Poets. This morning I am sharing a photo taken by Sherry recently. I am sharing it because it is such a peaceful poet, and it is just the kind of scene perhaps we need to embrace right now. What is it about sunsets that gives us such a tranquil feeling? Even though we have all seen many sunsets, it seems we all like to photograph them and look at them. Sunset viewing never gets old!
I hope everyone had a chance to read Rosemary's Midnight Musing this week. Her topic was: Why is it so difficult to write erotica? She used as examples some of our poets who do this VERY well. Take a look at the article and see if YOU agree!
Sherry has chosen a wonderful Poem of the Week for Monday. Be sure to come back and take a look.
Wednesday, Susan's Midweek Motif will be "Lady Liberty.
Now with no delay, let's share poetry. Link your one poem below. Visit the poetry of others who link. Enjoy the camaraderie we have here every week. See you on the trail!
Annie Moore statue - first immigrant who came through Ellis Island
Thank you, Vandana, for sharing your photos of New York City with us today. The photo of the Statue of Liberty makes me sigh a little bit. I hope that Lady Liberty welcomes immigrants to our country for a long time to come. You must have had a wonderful trip, Vandana. It is always nice to be able to experience another country..
Oh, and in the Northern Hemisphere, summer has finally arrived. Smiles.
Susan's Midweek Motif topic (human) this past week certainly turned out to be an appropriate one for the week and inspired a lot of interesting responses. Next week Sumana's prompt will be: What I Think about Myself. I will have to give that one some thought.
I hope everyone has had a chance to read Sherry's I Wish I'd Written This feature - the poem "These are Some of the Things You Missed" by Christine Lowther, a very good Canadian poet who just happens to be a neighbor of Sherry's.
Monday, do return to read the latest Poem of the Week. Sherry makes such great choices, doesn't she?
With no delay, let's share a poem. Link your poem below. Stop in and say hello. Visit other poets who link. Enjoy being part of the community. See you on the trail.
