Verse First ~ Edit to Elevate
Welcome to Verse First, where simple notions prompt amazing poems.
Today's notion?
EDIT TO ELEVATE
What Is Poetry?
Poetry's
the ordinary
edited~elevated
extraordinary
Poetry
Is art
©Kim Nelson
Today, write a poem about something exceedingly ordinary, something completely mundane. Edit it to elevate it. Turn it into art. Choose your words carefully, using only those conveying your specific intent. Remove everything that doesn't serve you well. If you're comfortable, leave a note below your post inviting others to critique in order to further elevate the work.
I look forward to reading your art. ~ Kim

Oh, intriguing. I shall have to stir the pudding that is my summer brain and see if I can find a lump and pretty it up! Cool prompt, Kim, as always!
ReplyDeleteFound myself seeking new language, new words. Thank you. Will be back later to read and comment,

ReplyDeleteHello I am new here, Kim. I joined this community of awesome poets on 11 August... and I am humbled by all the talent I see. :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, this challenge is going to be my fave I think since I wrote about my pencil and let the cat out of the bag that I am a total stationery nut.
Thank you Kim!
Great Prompt, I love the idea of romanticizing the mundane
ReplyDeleteDear Kim,
ReplyDeleteA great discipline - to edit. I will come back in a bit...
I could not get to Leslie's poem...
ReplyDeleteAnne Viva...your comments section didn't want to accept me. I really liked some of your lines "vellum whispers" and enjoyed the read. Thank you,
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
thanks for correcting my post :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kim, for a prompt that challenged me with the concept of brevity (shivers down my spine). Hardest thing for me to do is KISS (Keep It Simple, Shorty!). Amy
