“I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and
the soul.”
What did love seem to be at age 16?
And now? Let your mind swirl
through the years of your life, and pick One Age to speak from in Fourteen Lines.
This could be a sonnet or any form or non-form you wish. If you decide to write a ballad, the fourteen lines do not apply.
This could be a sonnet or any form or non-form you wish.
(If romantic love is not on your mind and Valentine's Day seems far away, consider the month of February and its significance in your life.)
Here's a ballad by Sonia Sanchez:
Ballad
(after the spanish)
forgive me if i laugh
you are so sure of love
you are so young
and i too old to learn of love.
the rain exploding
in the air is love
the grass excreting her
green wax is love
and stones remembering
past steps is love …

ReplyDeleteSpread it out, Brian! This week the motif is LOVE, but next week the motif is HEART!
Deletei could condense it down into the number of lines, just really, really long...hahaha...working on it susan, you said 16 lines right? ha
Deletefizz plays at my nose,
tickling, from a fresh poured coca~cola;
butterflies inside me
each time our lips meet.
friends slide, up my legs,
warm well worn torn blue jeans;
your arms each morning begging me to stay.
or is that just me wanting to?
asphalt stretches, between horizons,
reflecting in the rear view mirror, shine;
whispers carry forever to my ears from your mouth.
everything i see, taste, touch
reminds me of you.
and i haven't even got to work yet.
how will i ever get anything done
with you right here inside me?
How, indeed? Probably with a huge smile. Thank you for these lines, Brian. Today I am not counting.
DeleteMy favorite theme Susan ~
DeleteThat's a sweet one Brian ~
nice one, Brian. timely prompt, Susan :) ~
DeleteLove is always a great theme, Susan!
ReplyDeleteI know, Mary. I could write a book. And love is like favorite books, cherished and many dimensional. As we get older these books release new meanings and go to greater depths.
DeleteA timely prompt... in more ways than one. Thanks, Susan.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your poem, Laurie. Sending you and your family strength for the journey.
DeleteI'm happy to be here today, on this brand new day with love in it. My poem is about love at age 18 in 1969, about what was around me, not about the love I woke up in today. Can't wait to read POETRY with love motifs!
ReplyDeleteI'm crazy!!!! I had two pages open. Posted twice and posted the wrong one. Can you delete them for me?
ReplyDeleteI am happy to. I'd like to keep the first about love on the farm? It's great!
DeleteSusan,
ReplyDeleteA feeble return to writing as I am fighting a horrible winter cold. However, love always wins and I have posted my words!!!
Eileen
As you show, love wins. I hope you feel better ASAP.
DeleteI'm sorry but my poem is 18 lines (3 Six line stanzas) no particular form just worked out that way.
ReplyDeleteI cannot count today. Not when I stretched the rules on my own poem.
DeleteAh love! Great prompt! Thank you.
