Midweek Motif ~ LOVE is not a Greeting Card!

“There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends.
I have no notion of loving people by halves, it is not my nature.”
― Jane AustenNorthanger Abbey

“I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.”

― Pablo Neruda100 Love Sonnets

“Love doesn't just sit there, like a stone, it has to be made,
like bread; remade all the time, made new.”

Midweek Motif ~

LOVE is not a Greeting Card!

Your Challenge:  A Poem for a Loved One

What do you truly want to say? To whom?

(Not a Hallmark greeting card.)

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
                                                      i fear
no fate (for you are my fate,my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

I am not yours, not lost in you,
Not lost, although I long to be
Lost as a candle lit at noon,

Lost as a snowflake in the sea.

You love me, and I find you still

A spirit beautiful and bright,
Yet I am I, who long to be
Lost as a light is lost in light.

Oh plunge me deep in love—put out

My senses, leave me deaf and blind,
Swept by the tempest of your love,

A taper in a rushing wind.

  1. Who was it who said "I love you as much as I love salt in my food?" That was definitely not a greeting card! But in the days with lack of refrigeration and other ways of prolonging the life of food, that was love. Happy writing, happy love, and--on the weekend--happy St. Valentine's Day.

  2. I think love scared me more than cancer - as a topic to discuss....maybe that is a reflection of how it feels when things may have gone 'wrong' in the early stages of your life..thank you though as ever for the challenge and happy St Valentines for those who do...the whole love thing!

    1. That, too, would make a good poem and speak to many more of us than you might think. I wish you a happy weekend being kind to yourself.

    2. Thank you - maybe that's where the changes start...corny as it sounds...how can you love another or be loved if you don;t love yourself - thank you Susan

  16. I wrote two poems and two haiku. Somehow haiku says just enough when you are talking of love. Thanks Susan and Happy Valentines to each of you.

  17. Rather disappointing reciprocity this week....lots of those who gladly accepted others' comments did not return them. Sigh.

    1. I know. We have a core of people who care. The rest may learn to care in time.
