World Trade Center ----- Before 9 / 11 / 2001 |
Greetings, Poets!
Glad to see each of you here this week. Hope you each had a poetic week & also will share one of your poems here. The picture above is one I took while riding on the Staten Island Ferry before 9 / 11. We also had an opportunity to eat in Windows of the World at the top of the World Trade Center. A friend of ours worked for NBC, and she made reservations....and we literally had the best table in the house! A wonderful memory. Memories are wonderful, aren't they?
Come back a few times on Sunday and Monday to see what's new. Visit some strangers, and they will become new friends! Making new friends and reading new poetry, what more could one want?
Also, don't forget to visit Poets United other days of the week. For example, every Wednesday Kim posts a new "Verse First" prompt. Hope you will join us there as well! Sherry Blue Sky does a feature (it varies) on Monday, and Rosemary Nissen-Wade does "I Wish I'd Written This" every Friday!
If you are on Facebook, look for us there as well. Join our site. It is one more way to stay in touch!
And now...here is the procedure, for those who are new here: Each Sunday we start a new post with a New Mr. Linky for you. This is so that you can post a link to a poem in your blog. The link will close Monday at 12:00 p.m. (CDT), but you can still visit the links of those who have posted them.
Enjoy!
Ooooo..others have arrived...thank heavens...late Sunday afternoon here...glorious blue sky and sunny day...our long weekend celebrating The Queens Birthday... enjoy the weekend everyone!
ReplyDeleteI am sure the Queen had a VERY happy Birthday!! Smiles.
Deletei like the photo, the lights itself are very warm, and the clouds in the sky are so gentle.. perfect moment.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I always liked the photo...like it even MORE now that this view will never be seen again.
DeleteWTC always remains etched in your memory wherever you are from. It is a universal martyr of sorts. And such a lovely photograph of it. Warm as Natasa pointed out. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, it seems that the WTC lives in everyone's memory! I had never thought of it as a universal martyr, but as I think about it...you are right.
DeleteHappy Sunday, all. Thanks for comments on the photo. Seems like only yesterday. Remember next week Sherry will be offering a special Father's Day edition of the Pantry. I will make visits much later today, as the first part of my day is busy. Hope you all will enjoy the poetry here today. My poem shared is my favorite one from this past week.
ReplyDeleteSharing a poem I wrote after spending a few days with my oldest daughter in her college town.
ReplyDeleteAn eerie connection exists between the poem I post today and your comments above, Mary. Totally unplanned. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeletenice....love the city....funny i wrote about making memories...
ReplyDeleteGood Sunday to all - will be back later... interesting as well - I posted an old poem from a series about a murdered little girl ... (Oh my - apololgies for the sadness)... which was very much about the tortured question of when do memories fade? Haunting picture of the World Trade Center still cannot believe that fall was not a nightmarish fiction.
ReplyDeleteWill be back to read and enjoy :)
DeleteHope everyone has a wonderful day! Absolutely beautiful here in the northeast. It has been a busy week, my first grandchild arrived Thursday, he is beautiful. I posted a short poem I wrote awhile ago. Looking forward to reading some wonderful poems.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting about your grandson, Lisa! I love being a grandmother and know you will love it too!
DeleteA few years back I wrote a poem about the Twin Towers, and I almost posted it today -- but then decided to post something I wrote this morning instead. Thanks for the community! Off to read soon!
ReplyDeleteGood to see you, Nan!
DeleteAgain, I will be making rounds later today! Enjoy your SUN-day (hopefully).
ReplyDelete:-)

ReplyDeleteAm linking a Haiku this time. ...(though, am still learning to write)
ReplyDeletebe back late and return visits to anyone else that is visiting...
ReplyDeleteand i visited most...just skipping those that have never returned comment...
I understand completely, Brian.
DeleteWild animals and people are on my mind this day and some memories tend to take on mythic proportions over time.
ReplyDeleteThis is a message for Panchali as I cannot sign in at her blog:
ReplyDelete"Words and photograph together sent a stream of images through me of children, boys and girls buried by abuse, strife, war. Ouch. Well done." Thanks to anyone who can pass it on!
Thank you Poets United. I'll be back this evening and Monday to visit and comment. The photo is beautiful and you are lucky for that memory... I really like last Wednesday's prompt from Kim (I'm still working on it and plan on submitting it next Sunday here if it turns out. Better late than never.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am lucky for the memory!!! Makes me sad, but happy too that I had a chance to see it. Next Sunday we are having a special edition of POETRY PANTRY....for Father's Day.
DeleteMy first memories of those towers were etched in my mind from the 1976 King Kong movie. They are icons of American ingenuity with their images permanently ingrained in my mind. Sadly, the first time I got to see them in real life, they were crumbled, surrounded by fences covered with memorials.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your picture and memories of your day!
I did not see the King Kong movie, but it is interesting that they appeared there. Yes, sadly I also got to see the towers after they were crumbled. Sigh. I have some glass from the Twin Towers given to me by a NYC fire fighter who served that day.
ReplyDeletecan't wait to take a look at what's been posted!
ReplyDeletesweet memories.
ReplyDeleteI'll have a read around later, looking forward to it
ReplyDeleteok, made it. :)
ReplyDeletewill go around to read later.
