Poetry Pantry #427

Greetings, Poets!  First of all, if you are in the United States, do not forget to vote this week.  The photos above were taken by me on a walk through a woods in our area last week.  A beautiful day. A beautiful walk.

If you have not already, please read Rosemary's The Living Dead this week.  She features the poet/playwright/ author Ntozake Shange perhaps most well known for "for colored girls who have considered suicide."  I find it amazing how current Rosemary often is with her articles.  This is a good one.

Thinking of being timely, do not miss Sherry's feature she has ready for Monday:  Poems for Pittsburgh!  The day before election day here at that.  But, I think when we are at the polls we must keep such horrific events in mind as we decide what kind of leadership we want to have.

Next week Susan's Midweek Motif will be Reading Fiction, so plan ahead if you wish.

Now with no delay, let's share poetry.  Link your poem below.  Say hello in the comments.  Visit the poems of others who post.  See you on the trail.

Poetry Pantry #425

Hi Friends -

Sometimes I am amazed when I look at the number of the Poetry Pantry I am preparing.  This week, did you notice, it is #425?  Considering we take breaks for winter holiday and I think have occasionally taken a summer break, this is at least 8 1/2 years that Poetry Pantry has existed.  If I were ambitious I would look back and see when Poetry Pantry #1 occurred.

Do scroll back and read Mr. Moto's Confession which Rosemary shared for I Wish I'd Written This.  It was really an enjoyable poem, and Rosemary shared lots of interesting details about the poet as well.

Next week Sumana's Midweek Motif will be Winter.  I find myself wondering if I am ready for it!!!!  (I think not.)

Monday Sherry is featuring poems by three of our prolific male poets!  You will definitely recognize the poets and enjoy the poems being shared.

With no further delay, let's share poetry.  Link your one poem below.  Stop in to the comments to say hi. Visit the poems of others who link.  Look forward to seeing you on the trail!

Poetry Pantry #420

City Sunset

Greetings, Friends!  It is time once again for us to share poetry in the Poetry Pantry.  It can be a current poem or an older one that you would enjoy getting feedback on.   I am looking forward to reading whatever it is you want to share; but then again I also enjoy it when people comment on my poetry.  Smiles.

Rosemary did some very interesting musing on poetry in her feature this week.  In it she talks about what she calls "the medium and the message," and the parts that struck me most were the parts that dealt with poetry reading and poetry commenting.  See what you think. Take a look back if you haven't read it, and add your own thoughts.

Sumana presented a beautiful Midweek Motif prompt this past Wednesday.  Thanks to those of you who took part and shared poetry on "Sunset." This coming week Susan's Midweek Motif will be "Evidence / Clues."

Monday Sherry is sharing the poems of two poets who wrote poems on subjects we will all be able to relate to.  Remember  to check back with Poets United every few days.  You never know what you will find.

Now with no delay, let's share poetry. Link your ONE poem below.  Stop into the comments to say hello.  Then visit the poems of others who have linked.  Come back a few times, as there will always be someone new.

Photos of Okarito, New Zealand
by Marja Blom

Greetings, friends!  Today we are featuring some photos of Okarito, a small town in New Zealand.  What beautiful pictures.  Thank you, Marja, for sharing views from your travel.

Isn't it amazing that it is September already?  Where did summer go?  Thanks to all of you who took part in Poets United this past week.  It means a lot that you seem to enjoy our features and our opportunities to write.

I hope you haven't missed Sherry's I Wish I'd Written This, in which she features two poems by the Canadian poet Margaret Atwood.

On Monday you will have an opportunity to read an absolutely riveting chat that Sherry had with one of our long-time poets who has lived through a period of history most of us have not.  You will NOT want to miss it.

Next week Susan's Midweek Motif will be Charity.

With no delay, let's share poetry.  Link your one poem below.  Stop in and say hello.  Visit the poems of others who link.  I will see you on the trail!

Poetry Pantry #411

Mystic Beach, Vancouver Island, Canada

Greetings, Poets!  Today I am featuring a photo from Wikimedia Commons.  Really looks like a beautiful place.

Hope everyone had a chance to read Sherry's feature on Sumana's poetry last Monday.  If you haven't read it, DO scroll back.

Glad to see so many of you participated in Sumana's Midweek Motif City this past week

Next Wednesday Susan's Midweek Motif will be:  Greatness/ in Honor of Nelson Mandela International Day.

I really enjoyed reading Rosemary's One Sentence Poems Revisited on Friday.  I wonder if some of the rest of you felt inspired to try your hand at writing a one-sentence poem after reading it.

Monday Sherry will feature a chat about art with one of our prolific poets.  I wonder if you can guess who.  Smiles.

With no further delay, let's share poetry.  Link your one poem below.  Stop in to say hello.  Visit the poems of others who share.

Look forward to seeing YOU along the trail.

Poetry Pantry #398

Mount Rainier
source

Good morning, Poets!  It is another fine day for us to share poetry.  Either a poem you have written specifically for Poets United or a poem that you wrote for another site and want to receive a wider audience.

If you haven't already seen Rosemary's Thought Provoker - Self Portrait in D Minor, please scroll back.  What a talented woman she featured! It is very inspirational to read how the poet learned to tell her story despite some obstacles in her early life.

Check back Monday for Sherry's feature of poetry by three amazing women!

Next week Sumana's prompt will be Vision - a theme one can look at in many different ways.

Now let's share poetry.  Link your poem below.  Stop in and say hello.  Visit the poems of others who post.  Be sure to come back a few times to see the new poetry that has been posted. See you on the trail.

Poetry Pantry #392

Highlight Towers - Munich, Germany - completed 2004

Greetings, Friends!  Well, the Olympics are winding down; and what interesting games they turned out to be.  Hope that, during this week, you also had time to enjoy reading and writing some poetry.

Thanks to those of you who participated in Susan's Midweek Motif - Voice - this past week. Next week Sumana's theme will be Carpe Diem / Seize the Day.

I hope that you spent time reading Rosemarie's featured poem for The Living Dead this week -- Edna St. Vincent Millay's "Conscientious Objector."  It was very appropriate, I think, after the events (in this country / but really all over) of the week.

Monday, please return to read Sherry's Poems of the Week where this Monday she features poems by four exceptional male poets who share work here.

Now, with no delay, let's share poetry.  Post your link below.  Stop in with a comment.  Visit other poets who share links.  Come back a few times to see who is new, and always be sure to comment on the poems of anyone who comments on yours!  See you on the trail!!

Three lions in Kenya, resting at morning time

Good Sunday, Poets!

Another day to share some poetry!  Rather than scenery this week, I decided to share this beautiful portrait of three lions.  Just beautiful, aren't they?

Some of you took part in Susan's Midweek Motif - Moon - this past week.  Wow, what a great turnout that prompt had.  Next week's motif will be shoes, which should be an interesting prompt as well.

Hope you didn't miss Rosemary's Thought Provoker "Thomas Gesses" this week.  A deep and thoughtful article, as always.

Monday Sherry will be presenting a wonderful interview with a poet fairly new to Poets United.  Every poet has a story, and Sherry manages to find the most interesting aspects of the most interesting people.

With no further delay, let's share poetry.  Link your poem below. Stop in and say hello.  And visit others who have posted their poems throughout today and tomorrow.  I look forward to seeing you on the trail!

Poetry Pantry #388

Aurora in Estonia

Good morning, Poets.  I don't know about you, but I find it  nice to see it getting lighter a bit earlier in the morning each day.  I feel as if winter has turned a corner, and spring is nearing.  We can live in hope. The photo above from Wikimedia Commons is beautiful, I think.  I have never seen the Aurora.  Maybe someday.

Thanks to those of you who took part in Poets United's offerings this past week.  We are always glad to see people comment on varied weekly features, participate in Sumana's and Susan's Midweek Motif topics, and Rosemary's Friday features with timely topics and interesting poetry.

Next week's Midweek Motif topic will be Moon.

Be sure to take a look at Rosemary's I Wish I'd Written This feature of Kevin Hart's poem "Dark Bird."

Monday Sherry will share an interview with one of our newest poets.  It is always nice to get to know those who post alongside us each week.

Now let's share poetry.  Link your poem below.  Stop in and say hello.  Then make the rounds visiting others who link.  Be sure to come back a few times to see who is new!  Looking forward to seeing you on the trail!

Poetry Pantry #387

Mt. Herschel, Antarctica

Good Sunday morning, Poets!  Hope that you all had a good poetic (and otherwise) week.  I chose a photo of Antarctica from Wikimedia Commons.  Yes, indeed, there is beauty in ice.

Thanks to Susan for such a thoughtful prompt for Midweek Motif - Psyche / Soul.  And what wonderful poetry resulted.  The next Midweek Motif prompt by Sumana will be Weapon, so think about it ahead of time to be ready for Wednesday.

Rosemary featured a very interesting poet, Lawrence Durrell (who I had never heard of) in her The Living Dead series.  She featured one of his beautiful love poems, but also shared a lot of information about him.  I hope you will look back if you haven't already seen the article.

On Monday Sherry will feature an interview with one of our newer participants at Poets United.  Don't you just love it when Sherry shares these interviews?  I know I always look forward to seeing just who she will feature each week.

With No further delay, let's share poetry.   Link your one poem below.  Then pay visits to others who share their poetry! I look forward to seeing you on the trail.

Times Square New Year's Eve Ball

Greetings, Friends!  Here we are back in Poetry Pantry again on the last day of 2017.  What I want to know is.....where did the year go?

Our routine in the New Year will remain the same.  Mondays belong to Sherry.  Always be sure to stop in and read who or what she is featuring!  Wednesday is always Midweek Motif, and you will be challenged to write to prompts of either Susan or Sumana.  Friday Rosemary always shares something thought provoking for us to ponder.  Smiles.

This coming Wednesday's Midweek Motif Prompt is "Doorway(s)."  Susan definitely chose a good prompt for this time of year!

I hope you will have time to share a poem with us today.  Link your poem below.  Say hello to us in the comments, and then visit the links of other poets who have shared their work.  I look forward to meeting you on the trail!

Poetry Pantry #382

Vaalannkurkku Railway Bridge - Finland

Greetings, Friends.   I found the photo above on Wikimedia Commons.  I thought it was beautiful and suggested this wintry time of year.

We had another interesting week at Poets United.  Many of you wrote for Susan's Narcissism / Vanity prompt. This coming week Sumana will be prompting us to write to the prompt - Celebration.

Friday Rosemary shared the poem "Afterthought" by the Australian poet Tony Foley!  It really is a meaningful poem, one I think many can identify with.

Don't miss Sherry's feature on Monday.  She is featuring one of the original poets of Poets United.  It is great to see her back once again sharing her poetry.

Just a heads up to everyone:  Poets United will be taking a holiday break in December.  We will have a Poetry Pantry next Sunday,  December 17.  Then we will have about two weeks off to give us all a bit of a break.  Smiles.  We will resume again on December 31, the last day of the year, for those who are interested in ending the year with a sharing of poetry!

With no further delay, let's share poetry!  Link your poem below.  Stop in the comments and say hello! And visit the poems of those who link.  I look forward to seeing you on the trail.

A Late Autumn Walk
on "Black Friday"

Greetings, Poet Friends.  Hope those of you who celebrated Thanksgiving had a good one. It is tradition here for the day after Thanksgiving to be called "Black Friday," and stores have special sales that attract hordes of shoppers.   However, rather than shopping on this frantic day we went hiking in a nearby state park along the  Ice Age Trail. This trail runs 1200 miles through the state of Wisconsin.  After exploring the trail, we went to nearby Delafield and walked around.  It is a charming little town.

And now, back to poetry.  Thanks to those of you who participated in Midweek Motif, where Sumana's theme was 'The Flower Rose.'   Return this coming Wednesday, and write a poem for Susan's theme 'Bittersweet.'

If you have not read Sherry's article for The Living Dead -  featuring Canadian poet Pat Lowther & her poem 'Woman,' please go back to the article.  Sherry didn't mention it, but the poet's daughter Christine is a very good friend of hers & a good poet as well!  (Sherry has taken over for Rosemary for a couple weeks, but Rosemary will be back again THIS coming Friday!)

Monday Sherry will be sharing a blog update with a very familiar poet.  Do check back!

Just a heads up to everyone:  Poets United will be taking a holiday break in December.  We will have a Poetry Pantry on December 17.

Source

We have had another active week at Poets United.  I do hope you have enjoyed Susan's Midweek motif -- "Meteor Showers."  I hope  read Sherry's "I Wish I'd Written This:  Lee Maracle - Speaking Truth to Power" about one of the foremost writers of Canada.

Monday Sherry will be sharing a blog update, featuring a prolific Poets United poet.  And next week Sumana's Midweek Motif is "The Flower - Rose."

This week many of us in the US are celebrating our Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday.  If you are one who celebrates, I wish you a happy day.

Now, with no further delay let's share poetry.  Link your one poem below.  Say hello in the comments.  And do visit other poets who share their poetry as well.   See you on the trail.

Photos of Flanders Field, Belgium
in Recognition of Veterans Day
by Mary

Remembering November 11, Veterans' Day (Armistice Day) I have posted a few photos that I took at Flanders Field Military Cemetery, Belgium, in 2014.  For full affect, I suggest you double click on each photo so that you can read the words.  Many of us are undoubtedly familiar with the very famous poem "In Flanders Field" by John McCrae.  It is a very moving poem if you have not read it in a while.

Thanks to those of you who participated in Midweek Motif where Sumana presented the theme "Silence."  As I think about it now, the idea of silence goes along with the photos above as well....thinking about the silence of such cemeteries as the one above.

Rosemary posted a really fine poem for I Wish I'd Written This.  It is "Surge et Carpe Diem" by Joseph Hesch.  I found the poet to be an interesting person & I liked his philosophy of writing!  Take a look back if you haven't read this feature.

On Monday Sherry will be featuring three prolific poets and their poems. I think you will enjoy them greatly.  No hints as to who these poets are, but they will be familiar names to you! Smiles.

Wednesday Susan's prompt is  "Meteor Showers" for Midweek Motif.  Plan ahead!

With no delay let's share poetry.  Link your one poem below.  Visit the poems of others who link.  Come back on and off to see who else has posted.  Looking forward to seeing you on the trail!

Greetings, Friends!   Thanks to Sumana for the wonderful photos shared with us today.  I am so thankful for all of the photos people share here in the pantry, giving us a glimpse into parts of the world we might never see!

Last week was another good week at Poets United.  Annell was featured by Sherry on Monday.  Do take a look back if you missed it!  The topic of Saints was written about for Susan's Midweek Motif.  Rosemary had a wonderful feature for I Wish I'd Written This: Pleasures of the Inbox.  She featured one-sentence poems.

Be sure to return on Monday when Sherry features poems by three very prolific women poets who often post in Poetry Pantry.  Sumana's Midweek Motif on Wednesday will be Silence!  Shhhhhh.....don't tell anyone that you can begin to write your poem early if you wish.  Smiles.

And with no more delay, let's share poetry.  Link your ONE poem below.  Stop in to the comments and say hello.  Visit the poems of others who link.  Looking forward to seeing you on the trail!

'China Lights'
by Mary

Greetings, Poets!   Today I am sharing with you some photos of the "China Lights"  exhibit that I visited a few weeks ago in my area.  It is the second year that this renowned international lantern festival has appeared here.  The exhibit was created by a talented team of Chinese artisans and technical staff from Sichuan Tianyu, located in Zigong.  It really fills one with awe to walk through this display at night.  What I have shown is only a part of it! I hope you enjoy the photos.

This week we had another fine week at Poets United. Starting out with Sherry's article on poet Donna Donabella, then Sumana's Midweek Motif on Journey, and then Rosemary's fascinating feature on micro-poetry:   Pleasures of the Inbox.   As usual, there is a lot going on here.   Next week will be no exception.   Monday, you will have an opportunity to read an interview with a someone who is very active here at Poets United.  And Wednesday Susan's Midweek Motif will be Saints.

With no delay, let's share poetry.  Share your poem by linking it below. Say hello in comments.  And visit other people who post.  Look forward to reading your poetry!

Photos Taken Along the Bay Trail (3)
by Bekkie Sanchez

Businesses, like hotels and restaurants line the Bay Trail.
That is Kincaid's, a very good restaurant which is a chain in this area.

There’s plenty of grasses that grow in the sloughs and waterways
of my area. Besides the bay, there are man-made and natural
waterways that connect and the creeks that run from the Bay to the coast.

This is my heart rock. It’s a piece of concrete
from the old road that looks like a heart, I love it.

I cross this bridge a lot and finally read the sign!
It’s the Sanchez Lagoon and no one asked me about water sports! Lol!

On the way home the other day, the sky greeted me
with a giant S for Sanchez!

It’s always exciting to see a seal! They are hard to see because
you see a head, it goes under and never comes up again.

Good day, poetry friends.  This is the third weekend we are treated to photos taken by Bekkie Sanchez.  Thank you, Bekkie, for sharing your bike ride views with us.

We had a lot of participation in our Midweek Motif this past Wednesday.  Autumn was the theme.  No matter how many autumns we have lived through, it seems we can always come up with an autumn poem.  Smiles.

I hope you all have taken a look at Rosemary's Moonlight Musings.  She asks us about our favorite books for writers.  Do you have one?  If you do, please take part in this interesting discussion!

On Monday please return to read Sherry's feature of poets who share poems of strength and hope.    It is a wonderful feature, sharing the works of three fine PU poets.

Next week's Midweek Motif will be Dark Moon, New Moon. Plan ahead to share with us on Wednesday.

With no further delay, let's share poetry.  Link your poem below. Say 'hello' in the comments.  Visit the poems of others who have posted.  See you on the trail!
