The Thursday Think Tank - #37 Lemons

I was standing out in my atrium last night in the humid 80 degree Texas winter weather and was happily surprised by my Meyers lemon tree (bush). It’s has a billion little buds on it. This means I should have billions of lemons this summer. What does that have to do with today’s prompt you might ask? Well it got me thinking. Last year was the first year for it to bloom and I got a whole three lemons out of it. It stood on my patio where I babied that darn tree for nearly a whole year and all I got was three lemons. I won’t deny it, I cussed out my once green thumb thinking it had gone grey and I cussed out the tree. My fiancĂ© just laughed because I had bragged on my gardening skills. I moved that thing this way and that, watered it, fed it and all I got was 3 lemons.

So that brings us to the next part of my story. We actually had a freeze here in San Antonio for a whole two days. We had a record snow fall of, wait for it…a half inch. Prior to this the tree stared at me with lonely desperate eyes. It was sitting out on the deck getting colder by the moment and I was going to ignore it. Let the miserable thing freeze. My fiancĂ© convinced me to bring into the house and put it in our atrium with a cover it. The dang pot was heavy and I was lazy but I begrudgingly moved it. Fast forward to a month later and me, of course, being too lazy to move it back to the patio left it there. Now it sits in all its glory. Standing tall, sprouting leaves and buds everywhere, it is literally calling to me saying thank you. Once I saw that tree doing so well I took from the patio, my Lime and Pomegranate trees (bushes) and put them in our atrium hoping for the same success. Of course I just had to tell the misses “See I have a green thumb!!”

Not my tree but hopefully it can be lol

So, after all that rambling, here is your prompt; lemons. Do you take bad things and make them good? You know, make lemonade out of lemons? What has happened sour in your life that you managed to make sweet. Maybe you don’t want the analogy, maybe you want to write about a hot summer day and a cold glass of lemonade. Whatever you choose to write about include lemons.

We can’t wait to see what poems form you taking a moment to move your pen.

If you have a prompt idea (even a Music or Film inspired one) that you would like to suggest or share with us please send it to poetsunited@ymail.com . We keep a folder set aside with all your suggestions and just might use it one day.
