Now Accepting Submissions For Our Anthology

Poets United will now begin accepting submissions for our first ever anthology. The last day to submit a poem for consideration will be 15 January 2011.

We intend to include as many submissions as possible while still producing a quality book. The book itself will be sold by Lulu (an independent print to order press) with no profit to Poets United.  We will keep it as cheap as possible for our members.

We have yet to name the anthology but should have one in the next couple of weeks.

Please read below for further information and standards.

  • Submissions will be accepted from individuals that have been a member of Poets United for 45 days or more. This is to prevent individuals from joining just to be published and not really participating in our community. All current members will qualify for this as long as they stay active as it will close 45 days from now.  The current anthology membership cut off date will be 1 Dec 2010If you are an official member of Poets United on or before 1 December 2010 you can submit your poetry for consideration in our first issue.  Any one who joins our group after that will have to wait till the next issue for publication.
  • Please submit no more than three 3 poems for consideration. A panel of Poets United members will select the best of the three.
  • By submitting your poem you agree the Work is original work, it has not been copied wholly or substantially from any other work or material and publication.
  • All submissions and copyright will remain with the Author of the work.
  • Simultaneous submissions are welcomed. Please let us know, though, and notify us immediately when your work is accepted elsewhere.
If the initial printing is successful our anthology will appear twice yearly (2 issues per volume, Feb and Aug.) It is our goal to see that all our members are published in this anthology. After the initial issue has been produced all future publishing consideration will be given to first time member entries.

All submissions can be sent to us at poetsunited@ymail.com . Be sure to include the following:
  • Your name or Pen Name
  • Your Blog Name
  • Title of the poem you are submitting
  • Either the poem itself or a link to where we can find it.
We will not edit your poems so be sure that it is exactly the way you want it.

Please remember we are not a professional agency of any sort.  This anthology and all we do at Poets United is for the benefit of the Poets United community.  It is a hobby and labor of love and we are happy for having the opportunity to participate.

  6. Thank you so much for doing all this work.

I don't think I will qualify to submit (45 days) but still I appreciate what you are doing for writers.

  7. I clarified something in the article itself.

The current anthology membership cut off date will be 1 Dec 2010. If you are an official member of Poets United on or before 1 December 2010 you can submit your poetry for consideration in our first issue.

This still allows any recently joined members to submit as long as they remain active. Since the end date for consideration is 15 January 2011 it will place them within the 45 day minimum member requirement.

We want considerate and include everyone but we will have to set a date at some point.

  13. Hey Robert- quick question before I send submitions, is profanity by any means, a problem?

  14. We try not to censor words. I use a little profanity myself and sometimes a poem needs it to tell the story depending on the poet. The only time we would consider not allowing something is if its slanderous, hateful or overly graphic in ridiculous ways. So in others words your in the clear for the most part.

  15. Another quick question, Robert:
Do we attach the poems or paste them in the body of the email, or you don't care which?

  17. How do I get a copy of this anthology considering that I'm from Manila (Philippines)? Will the shipment of this book be available?

  18. Dennis,

The books are shiped and printed through LULU.com it is a 3rd party slef printing press. They only print them when you order them and then of course they have all the shipping info there. I cant say what the cost to the phillipines will be as I do not really know. I ordered a book recently from them so that I can see what they produce nad it cost me $3.00 for shipping. I hop ethat gives you a little info. You can actually go to their site and pick any book for $7.50 and act like you are going to order it I think it will give you the estimated shipping costs.

  21. Are we allowed to submit poems that have been published in online Lit magazines?
And, if so, will you allow credit to be given to the first publisher?
    Thanks

  25. Oh I am so sorry I missed that. I dont see why not as long as they don't have a problem with you publishing it. I will gladly ensure that they are credited with the initial printing. I will research how to do it properly. Just remind me of it when you email it in ok?

  26. That would be great - thanks again.
